Our Structures & Analysis team are regularly involved in the substantiation of a number of major programs for leading companies in the Airline Interiors market.

These companies have come to SWS with a requirement for the structural substantiation of seating, closets, stowages or galleys. This substantiation which forms part of the overall certification process, involves SWS' expert and experienced stress, test and structures engineers employing a series of test and analysis methods in accordance with the industry requirements.

We work with NX Nastran / FEMAP FE Software, in line with leading airframe manufacturer requirements, to give our clients the very best test analysis data they require relating to their interior structures. We have also acquired NX10, which is a finite element software with CAD/CAM/CAE capabilities and LS-DYNA for dynamic analysis.

  • FEMAP can be used to provide test analysis data for seats, galleys, crew rest & lavatory areas, overhead stowage units, and medical / role equipment.
  • FEMAP facilitates interface load analysis which simulates the behaviour of an aircraft unit during emergency landing and flight conditions.
  • Other benefits of FEMAP are that it allows us to establish critical areas of the unit structure using Tsai Hill and Von Mises criteria and also to carry out dynamic response analysis and windmilling analysis. (The latter assesses to what level aircraft units can withstand vibratory conditions caused by an engine imbalance e.g. after a blade-out event.)

Benefits of LS-Dyna...

  • In the preliminary phase of the seat design LS –Dyna helps to predict how a seat and its passenger(s) will respond to the 16g, 14g and HIC dynamic events (defined in CS 25.562).
  • By simulating these events in software, this helps to minimise the time and expense relating to development testing whilst at the same time supporting the requirements for successful dynamic certification testing.

The data these analyses provide ultimately allows SWS to obtain a structure that is deemed safe with a design that can be certified. All analyses are undertaken by SWS’ team who comprises highly skilled structures, stress, certification and test engineers and are, we believe, amongst some of the best in the industry in their discipline.
